When Gemma woke, she was alone in Shaynaâs bed. She had to admit she was grateful for it. Talking to Aaronâs sister had been kind of nice, actually, but Gemma wasnât really a morning person and generally preferred to be cranky all by herself. She pulled on her jeans from the previous day and took a minute to locate the pile of clothes sheâd selected from her suitcase the night before.
She hesitated in front of the door to the bathroom, then tried the door knob. The door was unlocked. She pushed the door open and stepped into the bathroom. It wasnât empty.
Aaron stood before the sink in just the towel wrapped around his waist, patting his face with a hand towel. His body was every bit as good as sheâd thought, muscled without being all hard planes. The curve of his rear looked very nice wrapped in the snug towel. A droplet of water skated slowly down his chest from the triangle of dark hair there, over his stomach, and down to . . . Gemma swallowed hard.
She spun away, blushing furiously. âSorry,â she stammered. âI should have knocked.â
Aaron blinked, then gave her a lopsided grin, apparently amused by her embarrassment. âMy fault for not locking the door,â he said. âIâm not used to doing that here.â
âDonât you do, like, private stuff in the bathroom?â she asked before she could stop herself. Asking him absurdly personal questionsâones that could be interpreted any which way, she thought with an inward cringeâwas not the way to make it clear she wasnât interested in him, she reminded herself.
âSure,â he said with a grin, âin the shower I do.â
Gemma found herself speechless, very aware that he had just taken a showerâand aware that he knew she was aware of it. She was also aware that she wasnât wearing a bra beneath her thin T-shirt, and Aaron could no doubt see the shadow of her hard nipples through it.
âIâll go get dressed and let you have the bathroom,â he said, his eyes still sparkling with amusement. âDo you want me to wait for you so we can go down together?â
âNo, thatâs okay,â she managed. âIâll meet you downstairs.â
Aaron nodded, and went back into his room. Just before he closed the door he stuck his head back in and said, âOh, and yes, I did. And yes, I was.â
He shut the door before Gemma could even process what heâd said. Surely he hadnât really meant to answer the questions that had been floating through her head: had he . . . and, if he had, had he been thinking of her? He was teasing her, that was all. Still, now she was thinking of it, she couldnât seem to stop thinking about it. She locked both bathroom doors and pulled back the shower curtain.
The shower was still wet, and it took no time at all for the water to get hot. Aaron had been in here, probably not fifteen minutes ago. She pictured him, bracing one arm against the shower wall as he stroked himself, thinking of her.
